H5N1 Avian Influenza and Worker Safety – A Global Topic to Unravel
Online March 27, 2025
Avian Influenza H5N1 and Worker Safety – The threat of H5N1 avian influenza is an urgent call to protect those who stand on the frontlines. We proud to share that the European Centre for Disaster Medicine actively participated in the recent session “Avian Influenza and Worker Safety: Navigating the H5N1 Challenge,” organized by the Integrated Bioscience and Built Environment Consortium (IBEC) and sponsored by the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA). This session, part of the CLEAN Lessons Learned series, brought together global experts to explore practical strategies for enhancing the safety of workers, veterinarians, and wildlife professionals. From surveillance and biosecurity to mental health and outbreak response, it was a powerful exchange of knowledge and experience that bridged science with real-world application. CEMEC had the privilege of joining an outstanding panel that shared invaluable insights on how we can work collectively to reduce occupational risks and strengthen preparedness against emerging zoonotic threats like H5N1. Protecting frontline professionals means advancing collaboration, preparedness, and smart policy. We look forward to continuing this vital work with dedicated partners across disciplines and borders. #WorkerSafety #CEMEC #H5N1 #OccupationalHealth #Biosecurity #GlobalPreparedness #OneHealth #CLEANLL #DisasterMedicine #PublicHealth #CBRNe
