European Centre for Disaster Medicine Showcases Expertise at EmergeRimini 2024 Meeting

EmergeRimini 2024 proved to be an important meeting, organized by the Civil Protection Volunteers and supported by the Prefecture and the Rimini Office of the Regional Agency for Territorial Security and Civil Protection. With an inclusive approach aimed at people of all ages, the event aimed to promote a culture of self-protection and resilience, showcasing the Italian Civil Protection System and promoting interaction between the voluntary and institutional sectors.Held in Rimini, Italy, the meeting was a moment to effectively address the topic of resilience, highlighting the ability to face and overcome adversity, and also drawing on real experiences such as that of the May 2023 flood. The event also commemorated the thirtieth anniversary of the foundation of the Civil Protection Volunteer Coordination of Rimini, underlining its evolution and adaptability over the years.
Over the course of two days, the European Center for Disaster Medicine made its vast experience and resources available to participants. Collaborating with other stakeholders, it contributed to the demonstration of professionalism and expertise in relief operations, and in educational activities focused on prevention and resilience.
On the first day, the middle school classes of Rimini undertook a journey at the camp set up on the public beach. Led by volunteers, they explored an experiential Campus, learning about territorial risks and emergency protocols. In the afternoon, the workshops addressed topics such as "May 2024: Reflections on the Flood in Romagna, one Year Later" and "Three Decades of Emergency Management".
The second day saw the continuation of the activities, with scenarios and training sessions that involved all the components of the Civil Protection System, together with volunteers. Together, they strengthened skills and tested capabilities, further building community resilience and preparedness
