World Congress WADEM 2023
The European Centre for Disaster Medicine took part in the 22nd World Congress organized by the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine.
The European Centre for Disaster Medicine took part in the 22nd World Congress organized by the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine. The association, established in 1976, is internationally recognized as the leading organization in the development, evaluation, and dissemination of scientific evidence and best practices in emergency and disaster health care and disaster risk reduction.
This 22nd edition of the WADEM Congress, entitled “Complexity and Continuity: Caring, Coping, and Overcoming in an Increasingly Challenging World.” brought together more than 200 global experts to exchange knowledge and best practices on disaster medicine, prehospital care, and the health aspects of emergency management and complex humanitarian crises.
The event, focusing natural hazards and climate change, pandemic and novel diseases, conflict and forced displacement, and food insecurity and famine, highlighted the need for robust, responsive, standards-based disaster and emergency medicine has never been greater as the issues faced become more complex and increasingly vexing. This because emergency situations and disasters continue to impact large portions of humanity, resulting in significant individual, cultural, economic, and societal burdens on health and wellness.
The Center's presence has been a fruitful opportunity to compare and exchange ideas and initiatives with organizations and specialists active in the field of disasters and public health protection.
