European Centre for Disaster Medicine and European Centre for Vulnerability of Industrial and Lifeline Systems Initiated a Strategic Partnership
In a recent meeting held in Skopje, the European Centre for Disaster Medicine (CEMEC) and the European Centre for Vulnerability of Industrial and Lifeline Systems (ECILS), both specialized centres under the Council of Europe's agreement for prevention and protection against disasters, agreed to establish a collaborative partnership. This partnership aims to explore synergies in critical fields such as health infrastructure protection, crisis and disaster management, and urban risk mitigation. The meeting served as a stage for exchanging insights, experiences, and innovative ideas. By leveraging their respective expertise, the centres aim to reinforce preparedness, enhance response capabilities, and strengthen resilience against natural and technological hazards.
ECILS, established in March 1997 by the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS) with the support of governmental bodies including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Government of the Republic of North Macedonia, has been at the forefront of numerous initiatives aimed at understanding and mitigating vulnerabilities within industrial and lifeline systems. Its extensive portfolio encompasses urban risk assessment, preparedness enhancement, and professional consultancy services.
Furthermore, ECILS's inclusion within the network of the EUR-OPA Major Hazard Agreement specialized centres underscores its steadfast commitment to advancing scientific research and development in alignment with the strategic objectives of the agreement.
Cooperation CEMEC-ECILIS marks a significant milestone in both organizations' commitment to promoting safety, resilience, and sustainable development across the Euro-Mediterranean region.
