Dubai Health Authority Launches Disaster Medicine Programme Accredited by the European Centre for Disaster MedicineToday, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) announced the inauguration of the "Dubai Disaster Medicine Programme", marking a significant stride towards enhancing the healthcare infrastructure against potential emergencies. This initiative, accredited by the European Centre for Disaster Medicine and the American College of Surgeons, represents Dubai's commitment to healthcare excellence and public safety.
The programme, developed in collaboration with the UAE’s Medical Preparedness and Response Programme, ‘Jaheziya’, sets out to increase Dubai's healthcare preparedness for disasters, emergencies, and crises, aligning with global standards and best practices. Through a unified approach, it aims to enhance the city's medical response capabilities, ensuring swift and effective intervention during critical situations.
Awadh Seghayer Al Ketbi, Director-General of the Dubai Health Authority, underscored Dubai's aspiration to establish global benchmarks in healthcare. He emphasized, "With its state-of-the-art medical facilities, advanced technologies, smart solutions, and highly skilled workforce, Dubai aims to maintain the highest levels of public health security."
Dr. Khaled Abdullah Lootah, Head of the Disaster Management Office at DHA, highlighted the programme's objectives to further advance expertise in disaster medicine and crisis management among healthcare professionals in both governmental and private sectors. Dr. Lootah stated, "Our focus lies in transforming professional practices and community safety protocols, ensuring Dubai's resilience in the face of health challenges."
The programme is tailored to equip over 10,000 hospital leaders and healthcare professionals with comprehensive training over the next five years. Trainees will receive dual certifications from both European Centre for Disaster Medicine and the American College of Surgeons.
Structured around six key areas pivotal to exceptional healthcare service delivery, the training encompasses emergency and disaster management, public health incident management, mass casualty incident management, critical case categorization, critical case transportation, and preparedness for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards.
