Vienna 23 October 2024
The European Centre for Disaster Medicine is proud to have actively participated in the United Nations/World Health Organization Conference on Space Technology for Advancing Global Health. The Centre had the opportunity to present a speech on "Leveraging Space Technologies for Global Health." The presentation emphasized the transformative role of space-based solutions in enhancing resilience, emergency management, and healthcare systems, especially in areas vulnerable to natural disasters and public health emergencies.
Drawing on CEMEC's work, the lecture highlighted how geospatial information systems and remote sensing can predict infectious disease outbreaks, support disaster response, and strengthen healthcare infrastructure.
By fostering partnerships between health and space authorities, we can design a more integrated and responsive global health system.
The discussion also contributed to advancing Sustainable Development Goal 3, focusing on good health and well-being by addressing communicable diseases and environmental health risks.
Together, we can create a future where international cooperation bridges the space and health domains, paving the way for resilient healthcare and better responses to emerging global challenges.
