Some moments remind us why we do what we do.Being at the United Nations Office in Nairobi (UNON) is one of them. In the heart of Africa’s United Nations headquarters, where ideas turn into action, we connected, we listened, and we explored new ways to protect lives in times of disaster.
UNON is also home to the global headquarters of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP) and UN-Habitat, two essential programs that shape the global future. Their work aligns closely with our mission at CEMEC, as environmental risks and urban vulnerabilities play a critical role in disaster mitigation and emergency response.
Disaster medicine is more than protocols and preparedness. It’s about people. It’s about the first responders who put themselves at risk, the communities facing unpredictable threats, and the shared responsibility to ensure no one is left behind.
At CEMEC, we believe that no challenge is too big when we work together. Whether it’s responding to natural hazards, health emergencies, or major crises, collaboration is the key. Because in times of disaster, what truly matters is how we stand together.
