CEMEC at IRC Congress 2024
Bologna 13-14 December 2024
CEMEC had the great pleasure of joining the Italian Resuscitation Council (IRC) Congress 2024, recently held in Bologna. Trainers Linda Mussoni and Andrea Lepri proudly presented the scientific poster: "Kids Save Lives in a Heart-Safe Republic."The poster highlighted the project “Kids Save Lives,” supported by the European Centre for Disaster Medicine. During the 2023/2024 academic year, 260 fifth-grade students from San Marino participated in an innovative educational initiative. Through interactive sessions and hands-on training, these young learners acquired essential life-saving skills, including recognizing cardiac arrest, calling emergency services, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, using an automated external defibrillator, and managing choking emergencies.
The program significantly boosted students' confidence and knowledge. Confidence in intervening during cardiac arrest rose from 60% to 95%, recognition of such emergencies improved with error rates dropping by 83%, and familiarity with emergency services grew from 91% to 99%.
Beyond the numbers, students became "facilitators of learning," sharing their newfound knowledge with friends and family, amplifying the impact of life-saving education.
Inspired by this success, the Kids Save Lives initiative will expand to high schools in 2024/2025, in collaboration with the San Marino Society of Cardiology and the Heart Project.
CEMEC is proud to contribute to this important movement, encouraging the next generation to create a heart-safe community.
