KIDS SAVE LIVES project: saving lives is child's play
It starts on January 30th with the fifth grade students of the primary schools of San Marino...
Thanks to its instructors, Cemec will hold 2 hours of lessons on first aid with 5th graders.
Students will learn how to recognize cardiac arrest, the maneuvers to implement while waiting for help to arrive and how to intervene in the event of obstruction of the airways by a foreign body.
In the EU, cardiac arrests are the third leading cause of death.
Survival rates are currently very low, around 8%, particularly if bystanders are unable to provide basic life support.
Training school children to provide basic life support in the event of cardiac arrest can help save lives and increase survival rates, according to an international literature review.
Italian Resuscitation Council promotes the “kids save lives” declaration in Italy: underlining the importance of teaching CPR to school-age children around the world.
According to the World Health Organization, the introduction of just two hours of CPR lessons per year would increase the survival rate of cardiac arrest with significant repercussions on global health.
Cemec, the European Center for Disaster Medicine, which has been involved in the training of emergency workers and the population for over 37 years, reiterates once again that prevention and safety education takes the form of a continuous learning process.
We thank the Secretariats of State for Health and Education for their patronage, as well as the Elementary School Directorate which joined the project and the Institute for Social Security.
