International Course "Agrocrime, Agroterrorism and threats to food Supply Chains"

Introduction: In a changing world where crime, terrorism and emerging threats pose significant challenges to global security, it is crucial to address the specific risks associated with the human, animal and agri-food sectors. This Course aims to shed light on the complex issues of agro-crime, agro-terrorism, and biological threats, with a focus on their impact on the food supply chain.
Objectives: To provide a comprehensive understanding of crime, terrorism, emerging threats and their implications for the agri-food sector. To explore the concepts of agro-crime, agro-terrorism and their detrimental effects on animal health and welfare, public health, food safety and national security. Analysing the vulnerabilities of the food supply chain and developing strategies to protect it from potential intentional events. Enhance participants' knowledge of biosecurity measures and agricultural defence mechanisms to counter biological threats to the food supply chain. Foster international collaborations and knowledge sharing to strengthen global efforts in countering emerging threats. Equip participants with incident response and crisis management skills involving public health emergencies to effectively address agro-crime and agro-terrorism scenarios. Promote the resilience and preparedness of Prevention Department practitioners in the face of evolving and unpredictable challenges in the agri-food sector.
Target audience: Professionals, practitioners, research specialists and technicians from the fields of agriculture, food safety, animal health and welfare, public health, law enforcement, national security and counter-terrorism. The Course is also open to students and academics with a strong interest in understanding and addressing the complex issues surrounding crime, terrorism, agro-crime, agro-terrorism and emerging threats to the food supply chain. A certificate of participation will be issued by the organising institutions.
Duration and venue: The course consists of 6 days of theoretical lectures and will take place on 2-5 October 2023, and on 6-7 December 2023, in Agropoli, Salerno, Italy,

The international Course, titled "Agro-Crime, Agro-Terrorism, and Food Supply Chain Security," commenced today October 2nd at the historic Angioino Aragonese Castle in Agropoli, Italy, drawing an impressive turnout of 50 participants from diverse backgrounds.
The event has attracted attendees including professionals, researchers, experts, technicians, students, and academics, all eager to expand their knowledge and contribute to food supply chain security. Organized by the European Centre for Disaster Medicine in collaboration
with renowned partners, this six-day program aims to tackle the intricate challenges posed by agro-crime, agro-terrorism, and biological hazards within agriculture and the food sector. Participants can expect an in-depth exploration of global food supply chain safeguarding, along with strategies for risk mitigation and security enhancement.
International Course on Agro-Crime, Agro-Terrorism, and Food Supply Chain Security Concludes with Innovative Solutions to Global Challenges
The recent international Course on "Agro-Crime, Agro-Terrorism, and Food Supply Chain Security," concluded on December 6-7, 2023. This program was a collaboration between experts from the European Centre for Disaster Medicine, the Observatory on Security and CBRNe Defence, the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” - Department of Electronic Engineering, the Local Health Board of Salerno in Italy, and the Regional Reference Center for Emergencies, CeRVEnE.
Its main focus was to understand and address issues related to agro-crime, agro-terrorism, and biological threats affecting our food supply chains.
During the final session in December, different teams shared their work:
Group 1 - "Emergency Plan for Food and Feed": This group developed a plan to ensure the safety of food and feed supplies during crises.
Group 2 - "Planning for Unconventional Events": This group devised strategies to handle risky situations involving chemicals, biological hazards, and more.
Group 3 - "Communicating in Emergencies": This group discussed effective communication methods during emergencies to ensure accurate information reaches everyone.
Group 4 - "Preparing for Emergencies": This group focused on creating training exercises to prepare and respond effectively in emergency situations.
The collaborative efforts of these teams aimed to enhance global food security measures. The innovative ideas and plans formulated during this training program will play a crucial role in safeguarding our food supply from various threats worldwide.
