Health professionals and emergency response teams recently gathered in Abu Dhabi for a groundbreaking Medical Forum, showcasing the launch of the UAE CBRNe Academy, organized by the Emirates Preparedness and Response Program and the European Centre for Disaster Medicine. During the event, the Accredited Basic Course for Health Professionals on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNe) Hazards was delivered, offering a unique learning experience aimed at elevating disaster medicine competencies.
The Forum's central focus remained on addressing critical competencies required in managing unconventional hazards, encompassing both natural occurrences and potential weaponized scenarios. Comprehensive Course topics covered vital areas, including recognizing signs and symptoms of exposure to CBRNe agents, treatment protocols for contact with these hazardous agents, and understanding the pivotal role of Emergency Medical Services within the Incident Command System.
Distinguished by a dynamic half-day live exercise that provided participants with hands-on experience and simulations, the forum attracted a diverse audience. Among them were hospital personnel, physicians, nurses, Public and Emergency Medical Services, and Emergency Management Organizations team members.
The presentation of the UAE CBRNe Academy initiative took center stage during this event. Developed by the Emirates Preparedness and Response Program and the European Centre for Disaster Medicine, the UAE CBRNe Academy aims to redefine accredited professional training courses and research in CBRNe and Emergency response. Its primary goal is to standardize medical responses among health professionals and emergency teams by offering cutting-edge training.
At the heart of the UAE CBRNe Academy lies its distinguished faculty, comprising physicians, nurses, and administrators boasting decades of collective expertise in healthcare disaster management, emergency medical and surgical care, security, hazardous materials, biothreats, and health system operations.
The Medical Forum and the CBRNe Accredited Basic Course not only equipped attendees with indispensable skills and knowledge in disaster medicine but also signaled a collaborative stride towards standardized responses in the face of CBRNe hazards. The launch of the UAE CBRNe Academy stands as a significant milestone in advancing disaster preparedness among health professionals and emergency response teams.
